Is Dreesen a possible candidate to succeed Kahn?

Before leaving FC Bayern – or not? Jan Christian Dreesen.

Jan-Christian Dreesen had already announced his departure at the end of the season last September. After ten years on the board of the record champions, he did not want to extend his expiring contract “at his own request” and “redefined his personal goals again after this extraordinary decade”.

Now, however, there is speculation that Dreesen could stay – as Oliver Kahn’s heir. If the CEO is actually relieved of his duties after the supervisory board meeting on May 30, Dreesen is a possible candidate for the successor, according to reports from “tz” and “Abendzeitung”. At the same time, he is being discussed as the new managing director of the DFL, which is currently being managed on an interim basis by Axel Hellmann and Oliver Leki.

Dreesen stands for Bavaria’s financial success in recent years

Dreesen has been deputy chairman of the Bavarian board of directors since 2014 and is therefore a logical way to inherit the CEO, as in any other company. As CFO, the 55-year-old made a significant contribution to many financially successful years at FC Bayern. At the farewell announcement in autumn, President Herbert Hainer thanked him for his “excellent commitment and his great achievements”.

It is already fixed that on July 1st Dr. Michael Diederich becomes the new Chief Financial Officer and Deputy CEO. The previous CEO of Unicredit Bank AG, who has been a member of the Bavarian Supervisory Board since 2018, has been trained by Dreesen since April 1.

For the time being, however, everyone involved in Säbener Straße is focusing on the season finale with the away game at 1. FC Köln on Saturday (3.30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) and the small hope of Borussia Dortmund’s championship and thus a season without a title after all to prevent.

Next Tuesday, the past months will be relentlessly analyzed. Not only is Kahn’s future discussed, but also that of sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, who is also criticized.
