Inter Milan again beat AC Milan on Tuesday at San Siro in the return leg of the Champions League (1-0, aggregate score 3-0). Thirteen years after its last final, the “Nerazzurri” find the top of Europe.

Inter Milan had a 91% chance of qualifying before the match according to the bookmakers and AC Milan couldn’t beat the statistics. The Interists mastered the return leg of the Champions League semi-final to defeat their rivals and neighbors (1-0, aggregate score 3-0) and go to the final where they will face the winner of Manchester City – Real Madrid.

In a gala San Siro, the supporters put the stadium on its 31st for this Della Madonnina derby. But, unlike the first leg six days earlier, it was AC Milan who took control of the match, determined to catch up. Théo Hernandez launches hostilities with a distant cannonball (5th). Then, in the continuity of a high recovery of the French side, Tonali pierces on the left and crosses back. Brahim Diaz emerges at the penalty spot but Onana shines (11th). Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan shines in the following action on a dry strike from Barella, even if the interist attack is finally whistled offside (14th).

Half an hour into the game, the “Rossoneri” can claim to have the monopoly of the ball for long minutes but fail to find the fault or bring danger into the interist block. Inter Milan ends up waking up and attacking Mike Maignan’s cage

It is therefore against the tide that Rafael Leao gets the best Milan opportunity: taking advantage of a clumsiness from Darmian on the fall of a long ball, Rafael Leao takes the ball and enters the surface. With a final hook, he opens a shot window from the left but crosses his shot too much (38′).

Lautaro Martinez seals qualification

Inter respond immediately. From the left, Calhanoglu rolls up a powerful free kick that Dzeko deflects. The head seems unstoppable, but Maignan is there (39th) and allows his teammates to still believe in it at halftime when Inter loses Mkhitaryan, hit in the thigh. He is replaced by Brozovic (44th).

The match bogged down in the second half. The faults continue to multiply and time passes without AC Milan giving itself the means to get back into the game. Giroud is muzzled, Leao uninspired. And in this ocean of boredom, Lautaro Martinez ends up scoring a goal, well offset by Lukaku. Mike Maignan is finally beaten (1-0, 73rd). If tempers flare, the score remains there.

Thirteen years later, Inter are back in the final. In Istanbul, the “Nerazzurri” will have an appointment with the winner of Manchester City – Real Madrid to win the fourth Champions League in their history.
