Pink jersey Geraint Thomas and his Ineos team had a flawless day in the Giro. And they owed that to Laurens De Plus, among others.
Our compatriot, together with the Dutchman Thymen Arensman, delivered bear work by beating the head of the favorites group in the (pre)final. The pink jersey was dropped off in a chair.
“Laurens De Plus did a great job, unbelievable!” Sports director Matteo Tossato says with admiration.
“After 2 (more difficult) years, Laurens has been driving at a high level for an entire season. I am very happy for him.”
The Plus itself is also in 10th position in the ranking. “I would be very happy if he holds that top 10 spot,” says Tossato.
“But his biggest goal is to support Geraint Thomas as much as possible. That is the goal of the whole team, by the way.”
The cards are still very good for Thomas.
“Tomorrow will be a very important stage. Roglic had a lesser day on the Monte on Tuesday. But he is a champion who fights back,” Tossato saw today.
They also take Almeida into account at Ineos. “There are still 3 contenders for the pink jersey in Rome.”
