Heitinga reprimanded after statements against PSV

John Heitinga stated on Sunday evening after the lost penalty shootout against PSV that taking penalties is a lottery. Kjell Scherpen does not agree with that, he says in the ESPN-podcast van Fresia & Milan park the bus.

Sharpen’s experience

The Vitesse goalkeeper received an invitation from Louis van Gaal last year to do various tests with the Dutch national team with Peter Murphy. Scherpen says he learned a lot at the time, although the specialist for the Orange keepers had no advice on how best to choose the right angle.

According to Scherpen, it mainly concerned psychological tests. “It was quite interesting. With Murphy, it wasn’t on the field. You do psychological things. The Action Type exercises: that is certainly special. He asked some questions and what he experiences is also consistent with how you correspond as a person.”

“He brought a sheet with some things on it. Then you had to look at a point and he wanted to push you over. At one moment it went well and at the next moment, if you held your pinky slightly differently, you were not pushed over. It was very special. I don’t know exactly why that had to do with saving penalties, but it was more about how you were put together as a person.

Training on penalties

According to Scherpen, it is therefore no coincidence that PSV, which had trained on penalties, took the victory. Although the pressure in the stadium can hardly be replicated during training, a team can work on other things. “You can train on a fixed staircase. You have to do that for a whole season, because a week may be too short.”
