Handshake deal with Dallas Mavericks? Kyrie Irving’s future has probably already been decided

Kyrie Irving will probably stay with the Dallas Mavericks. There are rumors within the league that the guard has had a “handshake deal” with the Mavs since February.

This reports Eric Pincus from Bleacher Report. Accordingly, he spoke to numerous executives during the draft lottery, all of whom assume Irving will remain in Dallas long-term. “I heard about a handshake deal they sealed prior to the Brooklyn trade,” a source is quoted as saying in the article.

At the same time, it should also be clear that Irving should receive his desired maximum contract from the Mavericks, but not for the full length. A four-year, $210 million contract is under discussion, with Irving leaving in 2026. Thus, Irving and Luka Doncic would become free agents at the same time if so desired.

Irving himself has not yet commented on his future. After his trade, the point guard always emphasized that he would address his contract situation after the season, but the 30-year-old finally skipped his final PK.

The top pick of 2011 had moved from Brooklyn to Texas by the trade deadline, for Irving the Mavs sacrificed an unprotected first-round pick in 2029, as well as Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie. However, the trade was not crowned with success, Dallas ultimately missed the playoffs, even if Irving was quite convincing in the Mavs jersey. In 20 games, Uncle Drew averaged 27.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists with odds of 51 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from the line of three.
