WHAT HAPPENED?
Black Steel FC Papua ensured that they won the 2023 AFF Club Futsal Cup. They got this victory after defeating Thai giants Hongyen Thakam in the final via penalties 4-3 after a 1-1 draw during normal time in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, Sunday (7/5).
Therosak Charoenphong brings in Hongyen Thakam, who will also be in the 2022 edition runner-up, excel first. But Black Steel were more savage in the second half to get the equaliser and their efforts paid off when Evan Soumilena came on seven minutes from time.
The score did not change in extra time, so a penalty shootout had to be carried out. Substitute goalkeeper Muhammad Nasrulloh decided the championship by saving fifth executor Hongyen Thakam’s shot. Black Steel won 4-3 via penalties.

This is the second consecutive win for the Indonesian contingent. Bintang Timur Surabaya sealed champion status in the 2022 edition after crushing Hongyen Thakam with a score of 4-2.
