Gorka Sánchez Velasco, Spanish University Champion 2023

Gorka Sánchez, Talavera judoka from CDE Yamatorakeru, has won gold in the Spanish University Championship held in Salamanca on May 13, 2023. The young man has performed in his first national event, after his shoulder surgery and his long recovery after a sports injury, a good competition.

He began by winning in the first round David Najs Choquetilla Vargas from the University of Granada, in the second round he faced Ismael Blázquez Codes from the Complutense University of Madrid, taking the victory by a double waza-ari. In the quarterfinals, in a very tactical combat, he defeated the Andalusian judoka Alexander Perez Perez.

Already in the semifinals Gorka takes a place in the final after defeating the athlete from the University of the Basque Country in a great fight David Endazona Laberna. In the final, the athlete from CDE YAMATOTAKERU dominated the fight from beginning to end, taking the initiative at all times, managing to defeat the athlete Diego Tabuenca Linde from the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Jose Luis Martin Artworkone of his coaches at the YAMATOTAKERU Judo School, comments that “this well-deserved gold is the result of the daily work and perseverance of an athlete who in recent seasons has not had luck with injuries and sports results.”

The YAMATOTAKERU Talaverana Judo School does not stop collecting medals, obtaining another gold this weekend from the hand of one of its smallest judokas, Brooklyn Martín Carriches, putting, once again, at the top the name of Talavera de la Reina and its judo school.

Brooklyn has traveled to Palencia to play the tournament par excellence in lower categories, the “XIII Ciudad de Palencia Tournament” which, on this occasion, had more than 500 athletes. Brooklyn had a great competition winning six matches and performing very serious judo for his age. Highlighting the beautiful ippon that marks the Cantabrian athlete in the final.
