Gonzalez, Grandal lead White Sox to win over Guardians

CLEVELAND — A tiebreaking, two-run double by Romy Gonzalez in the seventh inning sent the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night.

Gonzalez tied it at 2-2 via hard contact against rookie Logan Allen, who was likely left in the game against a batter by manager Terry Francona.

Yasmani Grandal homered for the White Sox, who have won four of their last five games to stay in contention in a close and winnable AL Central.

Chicago’s cluster helped Dylan Cease (3-3) win for the first time since April 10. The right-hander worked six innings, Keynan Middleton, and Joe Kelly each pitched one inning, while Kendall Graveman earned his fourth save.

Rookie Will Brenan homered for the Guardians.

Josh Naylor doubled in the sixth to give the Guardians the lead, but the White Sox responded by scoring three runs in the seventh inning.

For the White Sox, Cuban Yasmani Grandal batted 1-for-3, with a home run, two RBIs, and one scored; Luis Robert 4-2, and Yoan Moncada 3-0.

For the Guardians, the Dominican José Ramírez batted 4-1; Amed Rosario 3-0, with one scored; Venezuelan Andrés Giménez 4-2, and Gabriel Arias 3-1.
