General Manager Bob Myers is expected to leave Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors from the NBA are apparently losing one of their guarantees for success. How ESPN reports, general manager Bob Myers will not renew his contract, which expires in June.

“The time is right,” Myers confirmed the rumors loudly ESPN.

The 48-year-old has been with the Warriors since 2011 and has been general manager of the San Francisco-based team since 2012. During that time, the Warriors, who were eliminated in the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers that season, won four NBA championships.

Myers is considered one of the architects of success. Among other things, he has helped retain core players Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

“I’m not going to tell them I understand the decision because I don’t,” owner Joe Lacob said at a press conference hosted by the Warriors. “But that’s not the point. I just want him to be happy.”

According to Myers, it wasn’t about money. The outgoing GM also rejected a share in the Warriors, which he would have received if the contract had been extended. “This job requires you to be totally committed to it. If you can’t guarantee that anymore, you shouldn’t,” Myers explained.

Golden State Warriors: Is there internal trench warfare?

Who follows Myers is still open. Lacob’s son Kirk and Myers’ former assistant Mike Dunleavy Jr. are set to take on bigger roles, according to the film ESPN the resulting vacuum is filled internally. The reason for this is also power struggles within the organization between the front office and the owner group, which should deter possible big names.

Myers will remain with the Warriors through June 30 and will support the franchise in the draft. However, it is unclear who will make the decisions there. And the Warriors are faced with a lot of decisions, especially in free agency and because of the new collective agreement, which is not particularly beneficial for the Warriors.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us,” said Lacob. “But we will continue to play for titles. I don’t care about the rules. We will find ways. That’s how it works in good organizations.
