Excited cheers of hockey fans fill both Riga and the bronze city of Tampere / Article

The whole of Latvia cheered and, of course, the excitement of the fans knew no bounds in Old Riga either, where after the victory of the Latvian national team there was an absolute substance of happiness in the air.

The ranks of fans were also joined by Wendy Shilov – the spouse of national team goalkeeper Artūrs Shilov.

He couldn’t go to Tampere because of his studies, so he watched the game at home with his family.

“I had no idea that I could make it this far [šajā čempionātā],” said Wendy. “Of course, the very beginning of the game, the first periods where it was 2:2, of course, it was difficult and I thought – no, no, we shouldn’t lose! But still, in the end, when we scored that one goal in extra time, it’s just indescribable! It’s simple.. It’s very, very disturbing!”

Wendy had not yet spoken to Arthur after the game, but she did not hide that she was really looking forward to his call.

Wendy praised Latvian fans as the best, most beautiful and coolest. The fans were ecstatic after the victory, and along with the Latvians, they also cheered for a representative of another country.

On my shirt it is written – Latvia, we will not stop there! Latvia is the best country in the world!!!

Meanwhile, fans performed a traditional flower-laying ceremony outside the US Embassy.

The fans of Latvia, who supported the national team in the historical matches in person in Tampere, also rejoiced with their hearts full.

Hockey slogans, songs and words of gratitude to the hockey players sounded loudly, which made for an unforgettable celebration.

Kaspars Daugaviņš’s mother Inga Daugaviņa was among the fans. “We turned history by 180 degrees,” said Daugavina.

The most hot-blooded fans did not hesitate to enjoy spring swimming after the victory.
