Slovenian Kristjan Ceh won the discus thrower competition at the start of the Diamond League on Friday. In the absence of Lukas Weißhaidinger from Upper Austria, the world champion won with 70.89 m clearly ahead of Olympic champion Daniel Stahl (SWE/67.14) and Sam Mattis (USA/64.69). The highlight of the evening was sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson. The American won over 100 m with only a slight tailwind in 10.76 seconds. The only 1.55 m tall athlete from Dallas caught the Jamaican Shericka Jackson (10.85) and the British Dina Asher-Smith (10.98) in the finish. The 23-year-old Richardson has not yet realized her potential at major events and wants to catch up at the World Championships in Budapest at the end of August.

At the first big meeting of the outdoor season, other active people also made strong marks. Triple jumper Pedro Pablo Pichardo – the Cuban has been competing for Portugal since 2019 – came close to the 18 m mark in 17.91 m, which is rarely exceeded. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico won the women’s hurdles in 12.48 seconds. In the men’s 200 m, the USA’s Olympic silver medalist Fred Kerley was the fastest with 19.92 seconds.
