Construction of Constellation Brands brewery in Veracruz advances – El Sol de México

Just over a year after the brewery Constellation Brands started construction of his new plant in the state of Veracruzthe company assured that by mid-2024 they will begin their first operational tests in the region.

Daniel Baima, president of Constellation Brands in Mexico, He stressed that these evaluations will be focused on the distribution of beer through different channels, from land, sea and even rail transportation.

The manager assured that although this plant is currently in a foundation stage, construction times and government permits are on time.

“In Veracruz, what we are doing now is an investment of 1.3 billion dollars. We are going in stages, construction (of the plant) began at the end of the year. The transportation tests will begin in the middle of next year, taking advantage of all the ports that the state has,” Baima commented at a press conference.

In June 2015, during the administration of former President Enrique Peña Nieto, Constellation Brands announced the construction of a new brewery in Mexicali, Baja California.

However, in March 2020, this project was canceled after a “popular consultation promoted by the President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, under the argument that the factory would put the availability of water in the state at risk.

Posteriorly, in April 2022 the company revealed that this plant would be built in Veracruzfor which they already had 14 water concessions, while their progress would take place as they obtained the rest of the environmental and construction permits, among others.

According to Baima, Constellation Brands did not receive any compensation for the cancellation of MexicaliBaja California.

“We believe in the rule of law, we are working and will continue to do so with the authorities. We have everything perfectly in order, there are meetings with the three levels of government, ”he pointed out.

In this sense, it also ruled out any impact on its operations due to the recent reforms to the laws Mining, National Waters and Ecological Balancein which it was proposed to reduce the term of the concessions granted from 50 to 15 years.

“Today we have enough concessions for our production, and if you add to this that in Obregon City we are returning four times more water than we consume, the environmental impact is positive in general terms,” ​​he said. Daniel Baima.

They will invest 5,400 million dollars in the next four years

At the press conference, held to commemorate a decade of operations of Constellation Brands in Mexico, Daniel Baima revealed that the firm will invest around 5.4 billion dollars in the country over the next four years.

This investment includes the resources for the construction of its factory in Veracruz, as well as the maintenance and expansion of its plants in Obregon, Sonora, and Nava, Coahuila.

Since the company arrived in the country, it has invested approximately nine billion dollarsaccording to Baima.
