Congratulations to the athletes for their achievements in April: Jelgava

When evaluating the athletes’ achievements, every month one male and one female athlete in the adult and junior/youth groups receives a special award “Best Athlete of the Month”, and the others receive a Certificate of Appreciation. This time, Pauls Eliass Rozenvalds and Rūta Šķiris received the “Best Athlete of the Month” award in the combined youth and junior group, while Toms Komas – in the adult group. Athletes and coaches were greeted by Jelgava City Council Deputy Chairperson Rita Vectirāne and Jelgava Municipality “Sports Service Center” Deputy Director Maija Actiņa. “It is my honor to congratulate you on your sporting success, moreover, a moment before the Jelgava City Festival! I wish you successful future starts, that a bond is formed between the athlete and the coach and that there are results!” its R. Vectirane.

TYPES OF RACQUET SPORTS

Jelgava badminton and squash players achieved success in April. Paul Elias Rosenwald won 1st place in the international badminton tournament “Victor Latvia” in mixed doubles in the U-21 age group. On the other hand, Jelgava Squash Club players had good results in the European Squash Federation ranking tournament “Latvian Junior Open 2023” – To Una Ulman 3rd place in the U-19 age group, Sonora July 3rd place in the U-17 age group. The girls’ coach is Baiba Lulle.

TYPES OF COMBAT SPORTS

In April, the representatives of Jelgava’s combat sports also achieved success. The representative of the fighting club “Milons”. Volodar Smirnov won 1st place in the Latvian freestyle wrestling championship in the U-20 age group in the weight category up to 86 kilograms. His coach is Vladimir Smirnov. On the other hand, the representative of the club “Olimpiks”. Ruslan Lepin-Zhagar won 1st place in the taekwondo tournament “Thüringen pokal” in Germany in the junior age group in the weight category up to 48 kilograms. His coach is Vitaly Lepin-Zagar.

SWIMMING

Jelgava Specialized Swimming School swimmers have excellent results in the Latvian U-19 Championship and the Latvian Youth and Junior Championship. Nicholas Deichmann (coach – Astra Ozoliņa) won 1st place in the U-19 championship in 200-meter backstroke, 400-meter medley and 4×50-meter relay, as well as 1st place in the youth and junior championships in 200-meter backstroke, 200-meter medley, 4×100 meter freestyle relay and 4 x 100 meter medley relay. It should be noted that Nikolas set a new Latvian junior record in the 200-meter backstroke with a result of 2:03.65 minutes. Ruta Škirus (coach – Jeļena Visocka) won 1st place in the 4×50 meter complex relay at the U-19 championship, while at the youth and junior championship she won 1st place in the 50, 100 and 200 meter breaststroke, 4×100 meter freestyle relay and 4×100 meter complex relay. Christian Branch (coach – Inga Arnīte) won 1st place in the 100-meter backstroke and 4×50-meter complex relay in the U-19 championship, and 1st place in the 100-meter backstroke, 4×100-meter freestyle relay and 4×100-meter complex relay in the youth and junior championships. Eli Alekseev (coach – Astra Ozoliņa) won the 200-meter butterfly, 4×100-meter freestyle relay and 4×100-meter complex relay at the youth and junior championship.

CYCLING
An athlete from the Jelgava Children and Youth Sports School (BJSS) had a good start in the 3rd and 4th stages of the BMX cycling European Cup in Belgium to Raynar Pavlov – he took 7th place in both stages in the B15-16 age group. Raynar’s coach is Uldis Balbeks.

AQUATLONS

A triathlon is a sport that combines swimming, cycling and running, while an aquathlon is a type of triathlon in which athletes swim and run. Representative of “Piramida triathlon club”. Evert Pickschen won 1st place in the Latvian Aquathlon Championship, which was also the 2nd stage of the Latvian Cup, in the M15 age group. His coach is Vladimir Kuzmenko.

ATHLETICS

Jelgava BJSS athlete Renars Ragovskis won 1st place in the Latvian winter championship in athletics in throwing disciplines in the javelin throw in the U-18 age group. His result – 56.47 meters – is a new personal record for Renard. Renard’s coach is Santa Lorenz. On the other hand, the representative of the Jelgava Athletics Club Tom Comas in the marathon “Haspa Marathon Hamburg” broke Jelgava’s marathon record, covering the distance in 2:29.36 hours.

It should be reminded that applicants for the “Best Sportsman of the Month” award can be submitted by any individual or legal entity until the 3rd of the following month (for May – until June 3) via e-mail [email protected]. The athlete’s name, surname, the result obtained in the competition, the number of competitors, information about the represented sports school or club and coach, and the competition protocol must be added. Athletes from the age of 14 (in figure skating and artistic gymnastics – from the age of 12) who have won 1st place in the Latvian championship or achieved success in international competitions can apply for the award.
