Coneaupa begins the process of accreditation of university careers in the area of ​​health sciences

He National Council for University Evaluation and Accreditation of Panama (Coneaupa), together with external international peers, will begin on June 28 the process of accreditation and reaccreditation of six universities that train professionals in the area of ​​health sciences.

The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobospointed out that Coneaupa made an effort to start the process of accreditation and recreation of 30 universities that operate in the country, achieving certification in 28 higher education centers, the rest are close to meeting the requirements set forth in advance.

The results are unprecedented in Latin America, It brings as an advantage to the country, more than 93% of higher education centers are accredited with high quality.

Coneaupa’s executive secretary, Maria del Carmen Terrientes de Benavidesannounced that on June 28 the external peers will return to the country, who will be responsible for evaluate the 25 races offered by official and private universities in health sciences.

The process to recognize or certify the quality of an institution, or of an educational program, is based on a previous evaluation of these. It is carried out by representatives of Coneaupa and external peers. Accreditation –or certification– recognizes the quality of the programs or of the accredited institution.

Terrientes de Benavides reported that the World Federation of Medicine established that, by 2025, all universities that prepare young people in this professional branch must have the respective certifications, otherwise, no student will be able to study in higher education centers in the United States and in another 99 that operate in different countries.

In the accreditation and re-accreditation, international titles are recognized, the improvement of quality continuously at the hands of Coneaupa and the creation, within each institution, of a culture of quality. The recommendations of the peers are mandatory.

Cone is a body attached to the Ministry of Education, which supervises all legally established state and private universities in Panama, carried out the reaccreditation process of 19 of these institutions. It also analyzes the administrative and academic work carried out by each of these higher education establishments.

The rectors of the universities expressed that they feel confident and satisfied with the work that Coneaupa has done, since it has been transparent, timely and favors the growth of universities so that the training of the human resourcethat the labor market requires, is of quality.
