PHOENIX — With the Phoenix Suns facing elimination, point guard Chris Paul will again be out for Game 6 of Thursday’s Western Conference semifinals against the Denver Nuggets because of a left groin strain.

Suns center Deandre Ayton is listed as questionable due to a bruised rib.

Paul, who hasn’t played since straining his groin in Game 2, has ramped up practice considerably over the past two days.

“He’s doing more for sure,” Suns coach Monty Williams said Wednesday. “I’d love to equate the two: ‘If it’s doing more, then this,’ but I’m careful not to do it yet because I haven’t gotten a report saying it’s 80%, 90%. I haven’t had that yet.”

Paul worked out for about 40 minutes on the court a few hours before Game 5, which the Suns lost 118-102 to fall behind 3-2 in the series. That session included some shots off the dribble and transfer action with assistant coach Jarrett Jack. Paul also ran, backed up and slid defensively.

Paul’s training at the end of practice on Wednesday featured extensive shooting drills on the move and off the dribble. He also attempted several three-pointers.

Paul was shooting drills with teammates Kevin Durant and TJ Warren when the media access period began. After his teammates left the court, Paul followed up with a lengthy solo lead by Jack.

A 12-time All-Star, Paul has averaged 12.4 points and 7.4 assists in seven games during these playoffs.
