Chris Evert shows empathy for Amanda Anisimova’s issues

Chris Evert gave his support to Amanda Anisimova, recommending the 21-year-old American to take all the time she needs to regain her good mental health. Anisimova, two-time WTA champion and former world number 21, retired from tennis to deal with her mental health issues.

Evert, an 18-time Grand Slam champion, acknowledged that being a tennis star “isn’t always a glamorous life”. “It seems like it’s a glamorous life, but it’s not. For a teenager, it’s not a normal life.

Every day you are either a winner or a loser. You are put on a pedestal or shamed on social media. The highs and lows are not balanced. There is a price to pay. Take your time, Amanda,” Evert tweeted.

Evert gave his support to Anisimova.

Anisimova performed well during the first half of the 2022 season, but she started to struggle with her game and results during the second part of the 2022 season.

At the start of this season, Anisimova failed to turn things around and improve her game. After suffering her fourth consecutive defeat at the Madrid Open and falling to a 3-8 record on the season, Anisimova understood that the best thing to do was to take a break and come back to tennis when she feels ready to play again.

Guys, I thought I’d do a post. I thought of making a post to explain what happened and my plans. Since the summer of 2022, I’ve been really struggling with my mental health and my burnout.

It has become unbearable to participate in tennis tournaments. My priority at this point is my mental well-being and taking a break for a while. I did everything I could to overcome this ordeal.

I will miss being on the court, and appreciate all the continued support,” Anisimova wrote on Instagram over the weekend. It remains to be seen when Anisimova will return to tennis.
