Château-Gontier: a publisher at the media library to present his profession to high school students

After receiving the M’Lire Anjou bookstore at the Victor-Hugo high school in Chateau-Gontier (Mayenne) in January 2023, the final year students went to the media library, Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

As a reminder, this output is part of the device Young people in bookstores (JEL) entrusted to the association of independent bookstores in Pays de la Loire (ALIP).

The goal ? Make known the role of the bookseller in the book chainraise young people’s awareness of the book economy and introduce them to the various trades related to books and reading.

It is in this approach that the young high school students were able to exchange with Dominique Huetpublisher of Éditions Pneumatiques.

“We are at the end of the book chain”, continues Francois Vincent, head of the comic book section at the M’Lire Anjou bookstore. “We found it interesting to bring in other links, and Dominique has local roots. »

Native Reze (Loire-Atlantique), Dominique Huet founded Les Éditions Pneumatiques in December 2017 with Nicolette Cook. He teaches at the Western Catholic University of Laval (Mayenne)where there is a bookstore training.

Transmission

“I love it, transmitting”, smiles the comedian reader. “The JEL system is interesting because no one knows the book chain or the economic issues. The profession of publisher is an unknown profession. »

This enthusiast of news presented his profession, his place in the book chain but also the particularity of Éditions Pneumatiques.

“The name comes from the pneumatic, a network of pipes under Paris between 1850 and 1960 around, through which people sent messages to each other. The transmission side spoke to me and I said to myself: “I am going to make books that are posted to send news.” »

Pupils conquered

Thus was born, within the Ae associationthe PLO collection (Postal Literary Objects) in the form of books/postcards, then Les Éditions Pneumatiques.

A presentation that spoke to Samuel Bellanger, 17 years old, high school student. “I would like to be a librarian because I like working with the object of the book”, explains the young girl, who lives in Meslay-du-Maine (Mayenne).

“My dream is to distribute reading, and I think we lost that in college. »
