Joshua Kimmich celebrates the FC Bayern championship on the Munich City Hall balcony. In doing so, he makes a faux pas, which is apparently not too bad. His criticism of the club’s management is more important.

BAt the double title celebration of FC Bayern footballers in dirndls and lederhosen on Marienplatz, thousands of fans dressed in red and white happily cheered for their champion teams in the bright sunshine on Sunday. After the most emotional championship title for more than two decades, the German record champion could not speak of an ideal Bayern world.

On Sunday, President Herbert Hainer and the new CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had to explain the open break with the deposed and angry boss Oliver Kahn as well as the picture of the inner turmoil that the record champion gives at the end of his chaos season.

Leading player Joshua Kimmich also criticized this on the sidelines of the celebration. What bothers him most is the time of the dismissal, which was announced immediately after the end of the game in the 2-1 win in Cologne that brought the title. Bayern hadn’t counted on the triumph, but benefited from Borussia Dortmund’s blunder against Mainz. “I did not know that. Of course it surprises you on the day of the German championship that something like this happens,” said Kimmich: “I think you could have waited two or three days.”

And further: “I’m not going to judge whether the decision is good or bad. It was funny when you secured the German championship in a final like that and then got a message like that. It’s an emotional roller coaster ride.”

“I hope it’s the copy”

Kimmich also made a mishap, damaging the championship trophy during the celebrations in the town hall. However, it is likely to be a copy. On the one hand, the real championship trophy was in Dortmund at the weekend, on the other hand, there is usually a duplicate for the celebrations anyway.

With good reason, as Sunday showed, an outer part had broken off. Kimmich said to “Bild”: “I hope it’s the copy. Otherwise we’ll have a problem…”
