Carmelo Anthony realized it was time. The former New York Knicks player and historic member of Team USA announced his retirement from the professional world in a video posted on his Instagram account. A few days away from celebrating his 39th birthday, Melo is hanging up his sneakers to complete a magnificent career, crowned with three Olympic gold medals with the US selection, 10 appearances in the All-Star Game and a 9th place in the ranking of the most big scorers in NBA history.

Before being drafted into the league in 3rd position in the 2003 Draft by the Nuggets, Anthony had won the national university title with Syracuse. The last phase of Carmelo Anthony’s career was unfortunately sluggish, with a complicated season at the Lakers, with his friend and vintage mate LeBron James. Melo was still averaging 13 points in his last season in the NBA and did not find a challenge to his liking for a last run.
Carmelo Anthony will keep the image of a player who might have accomplished more collectively – his greatest accomplishment remains a Western Conference final with Denver – but who undoubtedly left his mark on his generation. There is no doubt that Melo will enter the Hall of Fame in the near future.
For the withdrawal of a jersey, it’s a little more vague, but his best chance remains perhaps on the side of the Nuggets, where he spent 8 good seasons before leaving for New York, at home. The adventure in the Big Apple has been mixed, with great love from fans, but disappointing team results.
