Carlos Sainz acknowledged that at Ferrari “the year did not start as expected” and spoke of Red Bull’s dominance

The Spanish pilot appeared at an event in Madrid, in advance of an intense calendar.

the pilot of Ferrari, Carlos Sainzfifth in the World Cup Formula 1 and what comes from ending up in that position Miami GP last Sunday, he stated that they are “still trying to hit the key” so that things improve in a season “that did not start as expected”.

“I feel very well, but the year did not start as we expected; we thought we would start at least where we were a year ago, fighting for podiums and victories; but Red Bull (the team led by the Dutchman Max Verstappen; and the Mexican Sergio Pérez , second in the World Cup) it’s making things very difficult for us“, commented this Thursday the 28-year-old pilot -with a victory and fifteen podiums in the premier class-.

Sainz appeared at an event that took place at the Carlos Sainz Karting from the Madrid town of La Rozas, organized by those in charge of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, venue, on the first weekend of June, of the Spanish Grand Prix.

“We are still trying to find the key. There is still a lot to understand; we are still in a moment of analysis; to understand what Red Bull is doing that the others are not doing,” said Sainz, who has 44 points, 75 less than the leader, Verstappen, who was his first partner in F1 (in 2015 and at Toro Rosso, current Alpha Tauri)

“But everyone in the team, at the factory, in Maranello, is doing everything possible so that we can improve, which is what we all hope for,” commented the Spaniard from Ferrari, who, after fourth place at the opening of Bahrain counts as best results the fifths it achieved in Azerbaijan and in Miami, the last two Sundays.

“Although I just arrived from Miami, I arrived yesterday; and before there will be two other Grand Prix, the Spanish Grand Prix is the one you think about the most,” said Carlos, who -after two- will face three straight race weekends: those of Emilia-Romagna, in Imola (Italy); Monaco and Spain, which will be held on June 4 at the Barcelona circuit of Montmeló.

“I still have the Imola and Monaco Grand Prix ahead of me; two weekends that will be very intense; but your home Grand Prix, which is Spain, is something you always have in mind,” said Carlos Sainz this Thursday in Las Rozas.

At the event and before most of those present played a karting event, Sainz had an informal chat with Spanish journalists who are following his sporting career in which he admitted to Efe that luck can go one way or the other but that “at the end of the season you usually end up in the place you deserve”.

In turn, he acknowledged that he finds it difficult for the rest of the teams to be able to catch up with Red Bull before the end of the season; and that at the Spanish Grand Prix his team -the most successful in history but which, for the moment, occupies fourth place in the Constructors’ World Championship, with 78 points, 146 less than Red Bull- “will bring some improvement”.
