Bundesliga: Werder against Cologne 1:1. First whistles, then cheers | Sports

Werder is finally saved. But the 1-1 draw against Cologne was hard work for everyone in Bremen.

Before the game, a fan march of 9000 green-whites to the stadium. It is possible that they experienced the last home game of storm giant Niclas Füllkrug (16 goals). Füllkrug’s future is still open, farewell is imminent. There was interest from England in the winter. Werder would be ready to talk if the transfer fee was EUR 20 to 25 million.

This goal hurts Pain cheers from Cologne professional!

The future of strike partner Marvin Ducksch (12 goals), on the other hand, will be decided immediately. Ducksch’s exit clause (7 million transfer fee) ends on June 1st.

Füllkrug remains harmless on his comeback after a five-game break, Ducksch misses the double chance (8th/9th), prepares Schmid to equalize (73rd).

Been without a plan for a long time. Only one win from the last eleven games, plus ten home defeats. No wonder that for the first time in ages there are whistles in the Weser Stadium during and after the break.

Fan whistles drive Werder Bremen to the rescue!

Captain Marco Friedl: “It’s a big relief. I’m very happy for the team. If we had gone without points again today, it would have been disgusting.”

Romano Schmid causes Werder to celebrate, scores from a tight angle to make it 1-1 (73′). Joker Schmid scores his first goal (with the 34th shot on goal) in his 48th Bundesliga game.

As announced by coach Steffen Baumgart, Cologne will pull through to the end of the season and miss out on their fourth away win in a row.

Steffen Tigges completes a Kainz cross with a header to make it 0:1 (36th). Tigges “loves” Werder: He scored three of his six goals this season against Bremen. Since scoring twice in the 7-1 goal festival in the first half of the season, he has been goalless in 16 Bundesliga games.

In the end double luck for Werder: Stage only sees yellow after his brutal foul (79th) against Huseinbasic. Selke (83rd) shoots against his former club from three meters over it.
