Should the gates be opened to an investor? Before the big future decision of German professional football, both supporters and opponents feel on the upswing. There is still plenty to discuss.

EThere is still a lot going on before the groundbreaking decision for German football, which is due this Wednesday. Only one thing is clear: there will be intense arguments when the representatives of the 36 clubs in the first and second Bundesliga debate the entry of an investor from the private equity sector at the extraordinary meeting of the German Football League (DFL). There is movement in both directions.

Anyone who asks around among the club representatives these days is more likely to get reports that the financial and content-related impulses from a private equity company could actually be necessary for the future security of the rather dull-looking DFL. There has been a notable shift in opinion over the past two weeks. Before that, a possible influence of the future partner was described by critics as a pact with the devil, “Your future model: blind trust,” proclaimed a protest banner on the Dortmund south stand, for example.
