Bumbling Roman Yaremchuk still gets praise from coach: “I can only appreciate him” | Jupiler Pro League

Due to Ferran Jutgla’s injury, Club coach Rik De Mil dropped Roman Jaremchuk into the team against Antwerp again. The Ukrainian striker worked hard, but could not hide his lack of match rhythm and confidence.

An action just after Nielsen’s opening goal painfully showed that. Yaremchuk was played in a promising position by Noa Lang, but in a clumsy way he missed his control and the chance was gone.

A few minutes later he was taken aside by Rik De Mil, who tried to cheer up his striker. The Club Brugge coach also stood up for Jaremchuk after the match.

“I thanked him for today”, De Mil explained. “That boy really did everything. Of course he was unhappy with a number of actions in the second half, but he indicated that he had cramps and that he was physically exhausted.”

To call Yaremchuk’s season “unlucky” is an understatement. “That boy comes from a long way and has been through a lot this season. Yet I can only appreciate him for his fighting spirit to keep coming back and always bringing up that mentality.”

“He also showed that this week and for me it was right that he was in the base against Antwerp.” Also next week against Genk there is a good chance that Jaremchuk will get a starting place.

“That is possible, it will depend on the training sessions. I always check who is sharp and who I can use. I thought Noa Lang was suspended next week, so we have to start puzzling again anyway.”
