Boston Celtics win game two against Miami

The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 110-97 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals in the NBA playoffs. The record champion thus further reduced the gap in the “best-of-seven” series, after the second win in a row it is only 3:2 from Miami’s point of view. The Celtics laid the foundation for Thursday’s success in the first quarter, which they finished at home in TD Garden with a 15-point lead.

At times, Boston led by 24 points, with a quartet of Derrick White (24 points), Marcus Smart (23), Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum (both 21) hitting double digits. “We’ve got our backs against the wall and we’re going to stick together and fight at a high level to get another chance,” said Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.

On Saturday (Sunday 02.30 CEST) it needs another win to avert the end. The game will then be played in Miami again. If the Celtics actually turn the series, it would be a first: Never in the history of the NBA has a team advanced to the next round that has lost the first three games of a “best-of series”. The Denver Nuggets await the Eastern Conference champion in the NBA Finals.
