Borussia Dortmund says goodbye to four players after missing the championship. Defender Raphael Guerreiro finds it difficult to say goodbye after seven years. The club apparently already has a successor.
Dhe decision about the future of Dortmund soccer professional Raphael Guerreiro has been made. The 29-year-old Portuguese international will leave the Bundesliga runners-up. “After seven great years, it’s time for me to say goodbye with a lot of sadness,” said Guerreiro.
He did not say where he is going. In Dortmund he had the chance to play with some fantastic players. “These farewells are obviously the hardest of my career given the thrill I felt playing in this beautiful stadium,” said Guerreiro.
On Sunday evening, BVB published a photo on Twitter in which captain Marco Reus presented the crying Guerreiro with a framed jersey with his number 13 and the signatures of his teammates. The club wrote that it was an “emotional farewell” not only to the Portuguese, but also to Anthony Modeste, Mahmoud Dahoud, Felix Passlack and Luca Unbehaun.
Bensebaini booed when saying goodbye
A change comes as no surprise. Photos recently showed on the Internet that showed Guerreiro packing boxes. In addition, his contract expires this summer after seven years in the BVB jersey. He is said to have rejected an offer from the district club to extend the contract for a further two years. According to media speculation, Atlético Madrid are interested in signing the left-back, who was last used in Dortmund’s midfield.
And so it is not surprising that BVB has long since taken care of a replacement. Ramy Bensebaini from Borussia Mönchengladbach is apparently about to sign in Dortmund. The contract of the 28-year-old, who made 113 appearances for Gladbach, is expiring and he can switch for free.
It was already known before the last game of the season in the Bundesliga that he would do this. Before the 2-0 win in the home game against FC Augsburg, the Algerian was given an official farewell, but he was loudly hissed at by the Borussia fans.
