Blue Flag for Boxing Day, delivery on Sunday

The delivery ceremony to the Municipality of Santo Stefano Magra of the coveted “Blue Flag 2023” award, conferred by FIDAL – Italian Athletics Federation and ANCI – National Association of Italian Municipalities, will be held on Sunday 21 May.
“We are very proud to have won this flag – the mayor Paola Sisti begins, a few days after the award ceremony – We had the perception that in our area the quality of life was high, also thanks to the large green spaces used for light sports, starting from the cycle path and the presence of parks and paths along the river. Clearly this recognition confirms our perception that it arises from a common effort of the administration and our community. In recent years we have tried to enhance all sporting activities, not only football and volleyball, but also rhythmic gymnastics which is a Santo Stefano excellence, judo also practiced at high competitive levels, and also the sporting activity of ordinary people, such as the walks, the bicycle rides, the games in the parks, the Francigena routes, the paths in the countryside… This recognition makes us understand that we are on the right track”.
The route that will receive the prize coincides with a stretch of the Canale Lunense and has been baptized with the name of ‘Water Route’: “We decided to call it that to highlight the presence of this important irrigation course in our area , indispensable for the protection of agriculture”, explains Sisti.
The day of May 21 for the inauguration of the new Blue Flag itinerary includes two starting points and two routes of different lengths, so as to allow everyone to be able to participate according to their possibilities: at 9.30 the meeting is scheduled in Piazza della Pace from which the walking group will start which will cover the longest itinerary (5,840 m); at 10.00 instead, the meeting will be in the square of the Diagnostic Medical Center (CMD) for a shorter itinerary (2,000 m), always in the presence of Uisp instructors. The ceremony will take place around 11.30 at the Don Casale Park, the meeting point of the two routes.
In addition to the mayor Paola Sisti and the municipal council, Maurizio Damilano, Olympic champion and creator of the project, will also be present, as anticipated in recent weeks
The Blue Flag format also includes another important moment, this time aimed at schools: it is a training moment scheduled for Monday 22 May at the Schiaffini Middle School in the presence of a sports psychologist and, again, by the former Italian race walker and two times world champion Maurizio Damilano
