Betclic Elite: Cholet and Le Mans surprise the leaders and validate their ticket for the playoffs

While Cholet beat Boulogne-Levallois by a small point 69-68, Le Mans went to win in Monaco 95-101. With two victories ahead of the 9th one day from the end, the “neighboring” clubs formalize their presence in the playoffs.

After four consecutive defeats in Betclic Elite, the Cholet Basket returns to victory at the best of times. For the reception of the second in the standings and his prodigy Victor Wembanyama, the Choletais had other desires than to lay out the red carpet for them. In particular Boris Dallo, handyman from the Laurent Vila collective. In scoring at the start of the match then on the “touchdown” pass for Neal Sako (17-14, 7th), the captain finished at 14 points in the first quarter and put his team on track (25-18, 10th ).

The attack of the Mets 92 little inspired and thwarted by the defense of Cholet was therefore barely before halftime despite the 13 points of Wemby and an almost complete Ile-de-France team (41-31, 20th). Back from the locker room, Cholet gave a boost by attacking the painting of Boulogne-Levallois – causing a lot of free throws – and kept ahead before the last act (58-49, 30th).

To overcome his difficulties, Vincent Collet sent a very physical five to the floor with the return to business of Armel Traoré and Aaron Henry. The Mets finally went back in front five minutes from time (61-62). At the same time, Cholet being only 3 baskets scored in 15 minutes, in the second period.

But now, pushed by La Meilleraie and with the goal of the playoffs at hand, the Cholet Basket resisted in defense and won at the finish his meeting thanks to a last basket on the line of Perry Ellis. Ticket for the top 8 validated for Cholet and a Boris Diallo record. Chance of the calendar, they could soon find Boulogne-Levallois in the playoffs, in a duel 2nd against 7th.

Monaco clumsy, Le Mans takes advantage

Less than two evenings after their incredible qualification for the Euroleague Final Four, AS Monaco undoubtedly had a slight “hangover”. At least, assured of being first at the end of the regular season, the Roca Team was not under the pressure of victory. An issue rather located on the side of the visitors’ bench…

He needed a success at Le Mans to validate his place in the playoffs, the players of Elric Delord went to look for him in Monaco. Easy ! Well, not exactly. Without Mike James or Sasa Obradovic, the Monegasques attacked their meeting perfectly (8-0). At home, they have principles. But the Manceaux came quickly to the charge and even equalized at the end of the first quarter thanks to the long distance shot of Tres Tinkle: 23 everywhere.

After this first act, a match followed where the two teams went blow for blow, never getting too far from each other. At half-time, Le Mans led 44-49 helped by a real Monegasque slump. Without a great Matt Morgan (6 points) but with Abdoulaye Ndoye, former Monegasque house, unleashed (19 points), the Manceaux held on (69-71, 30th).

The MSB continued the fight, determined not to let go despite the points lead gleaned by Monaco. But in a very decisive money time for their near future, the Manceaux chained the decisive stops and then took a five-point lead with three minutes remaining. Monaco will not return and a qualification won at Gaston-Médecin (another). Just like for Cholet and the Metropolitans, Le Mans and Monaco could face each other in the first round of the playoffs.
