Baseball and softball, the twentieth edition of the Tournament of the Regions arrives in Tuscany

Dal 2 to 4 June the twentieth edition of the Tournament of the Regions for the sporting disciplines of baseball and softball is staged. It will be a widespread event on twelve Tuscan diamondsbetween the provinces of Florence, Grosseto, Lucca and Arezzo.

“The carrying out of this event in our cities – declared the president Eugenio Giani –which is the most important in Italian youth baseball and softball, is a pride for Tuscany. Quasi thousands of boys and girlstechnicians and race officials, coming from fifteen regions different, will compete on twelve diamonds located on the Tuscan territory for what can be defined as a real one sports party and of youth. We are happy, as a Region, to have done our part in favor of these girls and boys who represent the future of the national ‘beat and run’ and who on this occasion will be able to live together and play in the name of enthusiasm and sport”.

In terms of number of participants and technical-sporting offer, it is the event more important of Fibs at youth level in Italy. This year it will involve over eight hundred athletes and coaches, managers, match officials and companions from fifteen regions, not to mention the thousands of family members and supporters who will be following. THE diamonds chosen are: the Jannella and Scarpelli facilities in Grosseto, the baseball and softball facilities in Sesto Fiorentino, the baseball and softball facilities in Arezzo, the Vita stadium in Florence, the fields of Antella, Lastra a Signa, San Casciano, Lucca and Capannori.

“The Tournament of the Regions is an event of fundamental importance for the Federation – commented the president of Fibs, Andrea Marcon.- On the one hand, in fact, it constitutes the first piece of talent selectionthe first opportunity to shine for the athletes of the youth sectors, called to represent their territory, with the hope that it can also be in blue perspective; on the other hand, meeting all together to compete, but also meeting again, or meeting each other for the first time, are crucial aspects of playing sport, teamwork and making friends”.

The Tournament is of great importance because it represents the national phase of the circuit Little League International, the world’s largest youth baseball and softball organization, as far as Italy is concerned. In fact, the winning teams of the five categories present at the tournament will have the opportunity to compete against the best formations in the subsequent Euro-African phase. The winning teams of that stage will compete in the Little League World series finals in the United States of America.
