ATP Rome: Tsitsipas joins Medvedev in the semi-finals

The Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, seeded N.5, dominated Thursday evening the Croatian Borna Coric (N.15) in two sets (6-3, 6-4) to slip into the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 in Rome, where he will be opposed to the Russian Daniil Medvedev (N.3).

Finalist last year, Tsitsipas had to work in the second set but he continues a flawless course on Roman clay where he has not conceded a single set in four matches.

Encouraged by the public on center court, although he dismissed two Italians in the two previous rounds (Sonego and Musetti), the Greek was able to raise his voice at key moments, using his big forehands, against a Very combative Croatian.

Faller in the quarter of the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, the surprise winner of Carlos Alcaraz in the 3rd round, Coric gave up his service for the first time at 4-3 in the first set, on the first break point of the Greek.

Tsitsipas concluded the set in stride by authoritatively erasing two break points from the Croatian before knocking him out with a superb drop shot.

With the game now well in hand, Tsitsipas did not release his grip and broke again early in the second set to lead 3-1. Coric had the merit of hanging on and was rewarded by returning to 4-4. But without succeeding in pushing a Greek who knew how to keep his cool to break again and conclude in 1h36.

Tsitsipas will find in half the Russian Medvedev, an opponent he has already met eleven times (seven victories to four for the Russian) including twice on the ocher (one victory each).

The other semi-final will oppose the Dane Holger Rune (N.7) and the Norwegian Casper Ruud (N.4).
