There are ugly scenes at the ATP Masters in Rome. A player repeatedly insults the referee.
Incredible scenes at the ATP Masters in Rome!
During the duel in the 3rd round between Fabio Fognini and Holger Rune, there was a loud argument. Ranked 130th, Fognini had a heated discussion with referee Adel Nour when he saw a ball out of bounds.
“How can you see the ball outside?” the Italian yelled at the referee. He added with a rumble, “Are you stupid?”
Referee must ask for silence
The spectators booed Fognini after the action. But the tennis pro didn’t stop there. He continued to insult the referee after he again ruled out during a rally: “You are very bad.”
Nour then gave him a warning. The atmosphere on the court became more and more tense, so that the Egyptian had to ask for silence several times.
In the end, the Italian’s mockery was of no use, because he lost to Rune 4:6 and 2:6.
Meanwhile, German tennis pro Yannick Hanfmann caused a big surprise by storming into the third round of the ATP 1000 tournament.
