Apple TV+ Sports Division COO Pete Distad leaves the company

Pete Distad, who is responsible for the business and operations side of Apple TV app, Apple TV+, and Apple’s sports efforts, will leave Apple soon, according to Bloomberg.

The output of Pete Distad of Apple soon, joins those of the director of services business, Peter Stern and that of the head of Apple’s cloud services, Michael Abott, who has recently signed with GM to develop a navigation system similar to CarPlay.

To this day, Pete Distad leads Apple’s sports and video services business and operations teams, where he is responsible for growing Apple’s worldwide video businesses, including TV+, sports, TV app, transactional and channels. He previously led the Apple TV product marketing team (hardware).

Thanks to him, sports agreements were established with Major League Soccer and Major League Baseballand has been working on Apple TV+ content deals since 2017. Pete Distad works with Oliver Schusser, who reports to Eddy Cue. Distad was initially hired in 2013 and, prior to joining Apple, was the senior vice president of marketing and distribution for Hulu.

With the departure of Distad from the company, Apple will give more voice to James DeLorenzo for sports content, and is looking for a replacement to take over the TV business.

All of these moves coincide with the roadmap that Eddy Cue announced last year about restructuring service management with the aim of focusing more on Apple TV streaming and advertising. This year, they also added Lauren Fry as Apple’s Head of Video Ad Sales.
