SEVILLA, 11 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Alcosa Sports Center is the venue this weekend for the Absolute Spanish Badminton and Parabadminton Championship organized by the Spanish Federation, the Andalusian Federation, the Higher Sports Council (CSD) and the Seville City Council, through the Municipal Institute of Sports (IMD), and the collaboration of the Junta de Andalucía.

148 players participate in this tournament –of which 129 will play the senior category and the remaining 19 will play Parabadminton– and there will be 55 teams that will meet in the city with seven Andalusian entities, such as Lucena, Benalmádena, CB IES La Order, Granada, Huelva, Montilla and Rinconada, as detailed by the Consistory in a press release.

The remaining 48 clubs come from various autonomous communities, such as Madrid (8), the Basque Country (3), Galicia (5), the Valencian Community (7), the Balearic Islands (5), Castilla y León (4), Castilla La Mancha (2), Aragon (2), Asturias (2), La Rioja (1), Extremadura (1), Cantabria (2), Region of Murcia (2), Catalonia (2) and Navarra (2).

In this sense, Pablo Abián starts again as the top favorite in both IM and DX (together with Haideé Ojeda) after having been proclaimed champion in recent years. In the women’s section, the presence of the Olympic player Clara Azurmendi and one of the young promises of Spanish badminton such as Ania Setién stands out.

On the Parabadminton side, Francisco Motero, Ignacio Fernández, Iván Segura and Cristina Sánchez de Lechina are some outstanding athletes and regular participants in international tournaments. Parallel to the Spanish Championships, the Inclusive National Circuit will also be held, which will have up to four couples to play the semifinals and final phases. Among them we will find Cristina Sánchez de Lechina (with Adrián Corrales) and Iván Segura (with Silvia Redondo).

The competition will begin this Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Alcosa Sports Center Pavilion with the preliminary phases and the round of 16, while the quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on Saturday to finish on Sunday, the day on which will meet the new champions of Spain with the dispute of the finals.
