6,000 Valencian minors will enjoy safe sport in the Summer Sports Schools of the Municipal Sports Foundation

Basketball, badminton, hockey, karate, water polo… Almost 6,000 girls, boys and young people from Valencia will enjoy the summer camps organized by the Municipal Sports Foundation.

The implementation of these summer sports schools responds to a double objective. On the one hand, the most obvious, to promote physical activity and healthy habits among the smallest and smallest. On the other hand, helping families to reconcile during the vacation period of the minors. To this end, the campuses will be in operation throughout the summer, with extensive opening hours and even a dining room service.

In addition, in order to reach all families, the FDM offers places in the Summer Sports Schools with popular prices. Likewise, 10% of the total places are subsidized by the Municipal Sports Foundation, in coordination with the Municipal Social Services, and are allocated to girls and boys at risk of social exclusion..

On the campuses, girls, boys and even adolescents –in some minors up to 18 years of age are allowed to register– can continue perfecting what they have worked on during the school year in the Sports Schools. However, the most important thing that can be learned in these spaces transcends the technical and also the playful. The most valuable teaching has to do with respect, coexistence and effort, sports values that are intended to be transferred to girls and boys.

Sports facilities, ideal spaces

Most of the campuses offer a variety of sports activities, although some of them focus on certain disciplines in particular. At the Verge del Carme-Beteró Sports Center, there is the possibility of enrolling in the multi-sports campus, but also in the skating or hockey campus. However, “most of the boys and girls are interested in multisports”, explain those responsible for the campus. “The idea is to introduce them to sports such as rugby, floorball, frisbee, basketball or volleyball through modified games,” they say.

Comprehensive training for minors

Beyond motivating the practice of sports, the objective is also to educate in values. On campus, “training workshops are held dealing with issues such as xenophobia, homophobia or gender equality,” they explain from the Valencian Community Basketball Federation, one of the organizers. “The main objective is to strengthen and promote the values of friendship, sportsmanship and camaraderie; diversity, respect, independence and a sense of personal and group responsibility”, they say from the Petxina summer school.
