Alejandro Blanco meets with the Qatar Olympic Committee

The president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, and the president of QOC, HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani, have formalized the Memorandum of Understanding, an agreement, which has been in force since 2011, with a ceremony at the Ali Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena in Doha, which currently hosts the IJF World Judo Championships.

During the event, the president of the COE was happy “to be here in Qatar. I congratulate Qatar on this incredible effort to progress sporting development at such a fast pace. This is why the international community continually praises Qatar’s sports scene. We are happy to have signed this Memorandum of Understanding in 2011 and excited about the renewal that allows us to work together to benefit our athletes, coaches and the sport in general. We really appreciate Qatar’s constant effort to improve the level in sports.”

In addition, the QOC President has stated that “we are committed to ensuring that our Memorandum of Understanding is activated through specific actions to support all stakeholders of the Olympic Movement in our respective countries. and take advantage of the vast experiences we have accumulated over the years. We have enjoyed a strong relationship with the Spanish Olympic Committee under the leadership of President Blanco for the last 10 years, but we are confident that we can achieve even more together.”

Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, the COE and the QOC commit to further engagement in areas of mutual interest and to explore new avenues of cooperation, such as sharing best practices related to elite athlete development programs; exchange of lessons learned from the experience of organizing international events; co-development and delivery of legacy programs related to refugee athletes; and facilitation of pre-event training camps in both countries.
