Ajax player Steven Berghuis treats Twente fan to a blow: “I should not have done it” | Premier League

Steven Berghuis, who himself has a past at FC Twente, lost his self-control just before he boarded the player bus in Enschede, as can be seen on a video circulating on the internet.

Berghuis seems to deal a big blow to a supporter of the home team. According to some sources, the 45-time Dutch international would have stood up for his teammate Brian Brobbey, who allegedly received racist comments.

“I regret my action, I should not have done this,” Berghuis said. “After every away game, we get a lot of curses thrown at us at the bus. I’m used to it by now, but people think they can shout anything.”

“My reaction doesn’t solve anything, I understand that too. It’s not good, I have an exemplary function as an Ajax player.”

The club has now imposed a fine on Berghuis. “Steven reacted in the wrong way”, it sounds at Ajax. “He quickly made this known to trainer John Heitinga and immediately apologized.”

“On arrival at the ArenA, he had a conversation with Heitinga, Edwin van der Sar and Sven Mislintat. They also wanted to hear his side of the story. The conclusion is that his reaction was wrong and that Ajax disapproves.”
