A tide of 32,000 women dye Madrid pink

The Madrid Women’s Race gathered this Sunday 32,000 participants through the streets of the Spanish capital, who attended an event that, due to its volume, has become the largest women’s sporting event in all of Europe and in which a huge fifty-meter pink ribbon was displayed in length before departure.

The participants traveled 7.2 kilometers between Calle Serrano, at the height of the National Library, and Paseo de Camoens, at the third stop on the national circuit of the Women’s Race.

One of the protagonists was the triple badminton world champion, Carolina Marínwho was at the start of the race as an ambassador for Banco Santander, a partner in the event.

Before departure, the organization wanted to honor Virginia Torrecilla for his career as a footballer and for having overcome cancer, and also for the marathon runner Clara Simalwho in the last Zurich Marathon of Seville returned to compete at her best level (with a personal best of 2h30:25) after being the mother of three children, even managing to be the second Spanish finish line.

In the race, the victory went to the Serbian Ivana Zagorac, who stopped the clock in 24:07, beating her sister Sladjana in a sprint. The first Spanish was Silvia Rey Vega, third with 24:10.

Beyond that victory, in the competitive part, the vast majority of participants walked the route under a festive atmosphere and dressed in the pink shirt and its corresponding number with 016, the telephone number for victims of gender violence. that leaves no trace on the invoice.

This year, the organization of the Women’s Race has chosen football to give visibility to women in sport coinciding with the creation of the footballer doll within the #MasqueUnaMuñeca collection. Virginia Torrecilla, an Atlético de Madrid player, has been taken as a model.

The fourteen models of dolls, which make up a diverse social model, are sewn by hand by women victims of sexual and labor exploitation trafficking as part of the collaboration of the Women’s Race with the Esperanza Project and Wanawake, which also continues to support solidarity bracelets made by Maasai women.
