The decisive hurdle has fallen. The lifting of Burnley’s transfer ban by the EFL (English Football League) clears the way for Jordan Beyer’s permanent stay at the future Premier League club. The fact that the English will exercise the purchase option anchored in the contract is considered certain: Beyer, initially on loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach until the summer, has hit the ground running and won the hearts of the fans. Burnley move up to the Premier League as sovereign champions of the Championship. Coach Vincent Kompany’s team collected 101 points in 46 league matches.

After the contract of successful coach Kompany was prematurely extended until 2028 on Sunday, squad planning can also be pushed further. In Beyer’s case, a purchase option was included when the loan deal was negotiated last summer. Gladbach’s sports director Roland Virkus confirmed at Borussia’s general meeting in mid-April that the purchase price was 15 million euros.

Beyer’s sale helps with the change of squad

After Burnley’s transfer ban was lifted due to documents submitted too late, the foals are now in for the first rain of millions. The transfer proceeds from the Beyer sale will help with the planned squad change, especially since Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Lars Stindl (goes to Karlsruher SC) will all leave the club free of charge due to expiring contracts. Beyer’s contract in Gladbach runs until 2026.

Homegrown Beyer, who grew up just 30 kilometers from Borussia Park, played 33 Bundesliga games (no goal) for the foals. From January to June 2020, the central defender and German U-21 international was loaned to Hamburger SV to gain match practice. Beyer also promised more playing time last summer by moving to FC Burnley – the plan worked out perfectly. He played 30 times in the championship, missing the last few games due to a foot injury.
