1. FC Köln: Pure emotions in Cologne: That’s why Baumgart cried after the Bayern game | Sports

Final whistle after 34 matchdays. The champions Bayern danced and celebrated in Cologne after their title coup. And less than 50 meters away, Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart (51) wrestled with tears. What emotions!

The last game and the last-minute 1-2 bankruptcy were long forgotten. But the stadium is still filled to the last seat, because the 50,000, like the players on the pitch, the coaching team, the club bosses and all FC employees are still properly supported by goalkeeper Timo Horn (30/FC-Aus after 21 years) and FC captain Jonas Hector (32/end of career) wanted to say goodbye.

What followed were heartbreaking scenes that not only moved Baumgart to tears. Families and friends, FC employees, companions and of course the pros stood guard to celebrate Hector and Horn again.

Probably the strongest scene: When Hector entered the pitch with his son Anton in his arms, even the Bayern pros ended their championship celebrations in front of the fan block and ran to the FC ceremony, led by Thomas Müller, to honor Hector.

Pure emotions in Cologne. beer shower. Confetti Cannon. The pros hugged each other to their cult hit “Tommi” (AnnenMayKantereit) before Hector and Horn climbed onto the fence to join the fans and finally ended their time in the Cologne stadium there.

Hector: “I’m also glad not to play here anymore”

And what did the honorees say to the fans?

Horn: “As a small child, I always dreamed of being able to play here in front of you. This dream has come true for a very, very long time. That’s the biggest thing for me. I am grateful to you for all the incredible moments you have given us over the years.”

Hector: “I’m just glad that I was able to spend my whole career here. Even if there were worse times. I’ve always felt good. It has always been important to me that I have certain cornerstones – my family, my friends, my wife and above all my son. It was always an honor to play here. It was my pleasure. But I’m also glad not to play here anymore…”
