WTA: Eugenie Bouchard suffers elimination in her 2nd match at the Bogota tournament

Montreal’s Eugenie Bouchard lost in three sets, 0-6, 7-6, 4-6 against Russian Kamilla Rakhimova on Wednesday in the round of 16 of the Bogota clay court tournament.

Rakhimova, 90th player in the WTA rankings, is the fourth seed at the Copa Colsanitas.

The game got off to a bad start for Bouchard, who dropped each of the first six plays of the first set.

Except that she hung on in the second set, even saving two set points to finally win 7-6 (9/7) in the tiebreaker.

The final set was also hotly contested, as Rakhimova scored the only break of service at 5-4 to seal the win.

Bouchard, former world No. 5, in 2014, had accepted a pass from the organizers of the Colombian tournament.

It was Bouchard’s first competitive appearance since taking part in Australian Open qualifying earlier this year.

Earlier in the day, the second Canadian in contention, Carol Zhao, also saw her run come to an end, lost 6-2, 6-1 by the Briton Francesca Jones.
