Wrexham seal the long-awaited return of the Football League in front of the Hollywood owners

Wrexham secured their long-awaited return to the Football League after 15 years on the sidelines, supported by their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Top scorer Paul Mullin scored twice as Wrexham beat Boreham Wood to seal the National League title with one game to go, and with it promotion to EFL League Two.

The struggling club was bought for £2m by film star Reynolds and TV actor McElhenney in November 2020, which set out to raise the profile of both the team and the city of Wrexham, which had a huge influx of visitors following the takeover .

The Hollywood duo embraced a sport they knew little about, flying regularly from the States to watch non-league matches at the old Racecourse Ground and meeting and drinking with fans at The Turf pub over the road.

Luxury signings like Mullin and former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster have elevated the club to challenge at the top of the division and, after falling short of promotion last season – a disappointment detailed in the Welcome To Wrexham documentary series – Wrexham have overcome Notts County to secure the title.
