England, defending champions, validated Saturday afternoon their fourth bonus victory in as many matches of the Women’s Six Nations Tournament, by disposing of Ireland (48-0) in Cork. The “Red Roses” are therefore only one Grand Slam success away, which would be their fifth in a row. But for that, they will have to defeat France on April 29 at Twickenham, which for its part must previously dominate Wales, Sunday in Grenoble.
Thanks to eight tries, their “worst” performance since the start of the competition, the English have logically beaten the valiant but too fair Irish, last in the standings. A hard blow, however, for Zoe Aldcroft’s teammates: in the 35th minute, they lost their emblematic captain and third line Marlie Packer to an ankle injury, who could therefore be absent against the Blues. A little later in the afternoon, Scotland struggled to overcome Italy (29-21) in Edinburgh.
