Wiesnwirt Toni Roiderer: love for Bavaria and sixty – sport

Anton “Toni” Roiderer, 78, is the fourth generation to run the Gasthof zum Wildpark in Straßlach. Since 1989 he has been the host of the Hacker tent at the Oktoberfest. From 2002 to 2017 he was spokesman for the Oktoberfest hosts.

SZ: Sport is…

… vital to stay fit for a long time. Of course it gets harder over time. But I want to see that I grow old and not just look old.

Your current fitness level?

Good except for back pain – I do my gymnastics every day. Now that the temperatures are rising, I will cycle more again.

Rim upswing or stopover?

No bars and no skis!

Physical education class was for you?

That’s a long, long time ago. First I liked to play football, then tennis, later golf. Today I say: Cycling is better than golf because you can’t lose a ball.

Your personal record?

Work seven days a week. Gastronomy is not only a job, but above all a vocation. That includes Saturday and Sunday.

Stadium visitors or TV athletes?

TV athlete. Mostly football when Bayern plays or Sixty. Or Unterhaching, if they are broadcast. You can also watch golf, but that’s rather boring on TV. Then rather the Rosenheim Cops or a cooking show.

Bavaria or sixty?

Both. I am a member of both clubs.

Your eternal sports idol?

I don’t have an idol. But through my job I know a lot of top athletes. You always get to know new people in the tavern. Dirk Nowitzki used to be there too, a very pleasant man. But it’s important that he’s seated, then you don’t have to look up to him like that.

A formative experience?

When I tore my Achilles tendon playing football. That was in training in the multi-purpose hall, then the big career with the perspective of the substitutes FC Bayern was over.

In which discipline would you be an Olympic champion?

When dealing with guests.

Which athlete would you like to swap jerseys with?

Not at all. I don’t like swapping places with anyone. Especially not with Oliver Kahn at the moment.

Under the heading “Formality” the SZ asks people about their affinity for sport every week. Artists, politicians, captains of industry – just no athletes. It would be boring.
