Two victories and two defeats for the Pfv youth team

Third seasonal cross between the Under 19 of the PFV and the equal age of Mado Basket Valenza and third victory with a wide margin for the former, this time with the result of 82-26.

The Vercelli took on the match with the right attitude, with a great desire to win, mindful of the good performances offered in the qualifying round again against Mado, and already in the first period they put aside a good lead by finishing 21 to 8 in the 10th minute. In the second half, Anastasio rotated all the players available a bit, obtaining good performances from all of them, some in attack and some in defence, so that the lead was increased up to 41-14 in the middle of the game. Starting from + 27, the PFV had no reason to rage too much in the second part of the match, so that there was a bit of academy, while maintaining the concentration and determination put in place by the team and a good continuity of achievements unchanged. It finished 82 to 26 with Momo (18), Chillini (14), Zanetti (13), Francese (10), Barbero (7), Porcelli (6) and Carrozza (6) among the most prolific scorers, but with the active contribution of all athletes. With this victory, the Under 19 of PFV consolidates the fourth place in the Cup group, a position that reflects quite well what the team expressed in the season, with still two games to play, after the Easter break, interspersed with the rest day.

Against the first in the standings, Arona Basket, candidate for the regional title, the girls of the Under 17 PFV they fought on equal terms, for long stretches of the dispute, but were defeated within the friendly walls for 55-72

Javier Felipe Alsina’s youngsters managed, right from the first quarter, to stay in the slipstream of their more popular opponents, finishing 13-18 in the 10th minute. In the second period they were good at recovering a small but significant point, for the 30-34 in the middle of the race, suggesting good comeback possibilities, perhaps for a sprint finish. Unfortunately, in the second half, the landlord’s performance dropped significantly, against a crescendo of the guests who, scoring 21 points in the third period alone, fled forward on 44-55 in the 30th minute. The Vercelli/Ciglianesi/Saluggesi then gave way on a physical level and were no longer able to mend the 11-length gap immediately, which expanded, and had to surrender, once again, to the Aronesi with the final score of 55-72, which maybe it’s too harsh for how the match was. The home defeat, fortunately, does not affect PFV’s access to the final four for the title, in all probability (indeed now with certainty) in the company of Arona Basket (first), Conte Verde Basket di Rivoli (third or second) , which the PFV will visit on Saturday 15.4 at 18.00 – after the Easter break – with 2nd place up for grabs, and Letter 22 of Ivrea which will be either third or fourth. In the semi-finals (1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd) the PFV will play for the regional Under 17 title (non-elite) or one of the backup places, which still represents a good result.

Away win for the Under 15 of the PFV who got the better of the peers of Libertas Moncalieri, in the “Costa” gym of Moncalieri, for 45-60.

Anastasio’s girls, this time, started well even in the opposite field, playing a good first period, both in attack, scoring 18 points, and above all in defense, keeping the opponents to only 5 points. Perhaps the sprint start ended up slowing down the Vercelli team who, in the second fraction, didn’t know how to repeat themselves, but sailed on a par with their opponents, so that in the middle of the race the gap remained almost unchanged at 17-29, with the landlords nibbling a point . In the second half there was balance again in the third quarter (11-11) with the teams responding to each other blow by blow, but with the PFV who managed to keep their +12 lead unchanged at three quarters competition. The last period saw both teams’ scoring percentages improve, compared to the two central quarters, (with Prinetti top scorer with 25 points), but the guests from Vercelli managed to do something more (17-20 the partial of the final fraction) and deservedly win the match, closing at +15. This precious victory allows Coach Gianfranco Anastasio’s girls to detach Libertas Moncalieri by two points in the standings, in the race for one of the first two places in the group, which would give them access to the final four for the conquest of the Piedmont Cup in their category. The next match of the Under 15 PFV team will be on Sunday 16 April, after the Easter break, in the gym of the Pertini-Lanino Middle School at 17.00 against Cerrus Basket of Sozzago (NO) to continue the race.

Another stop for Under 14 of the PFVdefeated at home by Orbassano’s Area Pro 2020 for 39-65, at the end of a game that was aimed right from the start in favor of the Turin players, who undoubtedly appeared stronger, but also helped in this by the large number of mistakes made by the landlord.

The latter started badly, almost as if they were the guests loaded with the fatigue of the away match, and went down 4-17 in the first fraction, almost without a shot being fired. In the second period the same situation was repeated: PFV did not score and a new run of 4-17 led to the result of 8-34 at the mid-match buzzer. Games made, practically, also due to the effort that the PFV continued to make to go shooting. In the second half things changed a bit, with an excellent Panelli (18 points at the end) who tried to drag her along, assisted by Trotti (8) and Zannini (8), so much so that the third quarter was the prerogative of the Vercelli (15-11) for the 23-45 of the 30′, while the last one was played almost evenly (16-20) but without the result being able to change in any way. There is some regret for the very bad approach to the race, as mentioned before: perhaps with a little more attention and determination we could have done better, perhaps not winning, but at least staying longer in the slipstream of the opponents. The next match for the Under 14 PFV will be on Saturday 15 April, after the Easter break, in Asti against Scuola Basket Asti, at the Palazzetto dello Sport, against a team that shares the last place in the standings with zero points with Vercelli and Montemilus Aosta .

New defeat for the PFV Under 13 team, again against Basket Nole 53-27, this time away, with the usual nightmare first quarter.

The Vercelli players, in fact, suffered a rather discouraging 21-8 run in the first 10′, above all due to the difficulty in getting to the basket and also due to the inconsistency of their defence.

In the second quarter, however, even the landlords let go of the pressure a little, and a rather “measly” 6-4 came out as part of the period, and certainly not because the two teams fielded impenetrable defenses.

So we went to halftime with a score of 27-12 for Nole, with the match anything but compromised for the guests, if the opponents had remained at the level of the second period played.

In the second half, however, Nole started scoring again, while Davide Simone’s girls continued to struggle to score, so that in the 30th minute the result was 42-21 and the girls from Vercelli were no longer able to mend the conspicuous gap which, , was set at +26 in the 40th minute on the final score of 53-27.

This defeat which, in fact, erases the aspirations of the PFV to qualify for the category finals, but which leaves intact the merit of having achieved access to one of the groups that give entry to the finals themselves, which is in any case a good goal for a team practically in its first year of activity at the level of exclusively born in 2010, with additions also of some girls from 2011, coming from Mini Basket Bugs.
