Tuchel missed all targets

Nfter FC Bayern Munich lost out to Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the international media largely refrained from ridiculing and criticizing the German record champions. There is talk of a “volcanic game” by Bavaria that appeared as a “battalion of passion”. A Swiss newspaper considers the change of coach from Julian Nagelsmann to Thomas Tuchel to have failed: “All goals missed.”

Great Britain:

Daily Mail: “Yes, Manchester City went into the second leg of this Champions League quarter-final with a three-goal advantage. But the way they withstood the battalion of passion that tumbled through the magnificent Allianz Arena and defended their lead to win 4-1 on aggregate provided another example of the character and enchanting talent that is in them.”

The Guardian: “Manchester City so calmly sailing past the six-time European champions shows how far Pep Guardiola has brought the club. The big question now is whether they will complete the journey and finally seal it with the glory of a first Champions League triumph.

Spain:

Mundo Deportivo: “Manchester City is the team that will face Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League. It’s a match that everyone sees as an early final. In Munich, City did their job and drew against Bayern Munich who fought back and didn’t give up despite the result from the Etihad game.”

El País: “You should fight with pride to the end,” said the banner in the corner where the most ardent Bayern supporters are. Forced to make up for Manchester City’s three goals from the first leg, the clash was all about proving the heroism of a club who partly wrote their legend on nights of impossible games. City survived the volcanic game of Tuchel.”

Italy:

Gazzetta dello Sport: “The better team from both encounters advanced, the one that conveyed the feeling of superiority and is now in the semi-finals for the third time in a row.”

France:

L’Équipe: “Bayern allowed themselves to believe in their (slim) chances of qualifying for a long time this Wednesday and the German club pushed, pushed hard in the first half to destabilize Manchester City. But Thomas Tuchel’s team, just as tense as their coach, (…) couldn’t reverse the strong trend from the first leg.”

Austria:

Kronen Zeitung: “Bayern Munich missed the miracle of promotion.”

Courier: “So the miracle didn’t happen. The Munich team drew 1-1 with Manchester City and were eliminated. City meets Real.”

Switzerland:

Look: “And two! After the cup, Bayern Munich are out of the second of three competitions they wanted to win this season. Because it was seen as being at risk, the trainer changed on Säbener Straße. And after less than a month, Thomas Tuchel can say: all goals missed.”
