Branco van den Boomen is transfer-free after this season and is currently under contract with Toulouse. The 27-year-old defensive midfielder has made a good impression at the French club, with European clubs interested in his signature. Trainer Mike Snoei has already worked with Van den Boomen in the past and recommends Feyenoord as a possible new club for him.
”I can see it: Branco at Feyenoord”, says 59-year-old Snoei in conversation with Voetbalprimeur. ”Arne Slot loves these kinds of players, I’m sure he is interested in this. Then Van den Boomen is also eligible for the Dutch national team. I said more than a year ago that he would be an excellent midfielder for Feyenoord.”
Snoei is still of the same opinion, especially now that Van den Boomen has scored five times and provided eight assists in Ligue 1. ”He is actually the perfect replacement for Orkun Kökcü. He has the same qualities and in passing I think he is even better than Kökcü. He has an enormous creative capacity, although I think Kökcü is a bit more dynamic than Branco, but otherwise he comes awfully close to him.”
Van den Boomen has lived up to his promises in the last two years. ”It is a typical late bloomer: via the youth academy of Ajax to sc Heerenveen, FC Eindhoven, De Graafschap and now to Toulouse. Everyone recognized his talent, otherwise you wouldn’t go to Ajax and Heerenveen, clubs with an eye for young talent, but he was never really able to live up to it.”
