Tragedy in a rally in Asturias: two dead when the car they were competing in crashed into a tree

A serious accident in the Tineo rally has resulted in the death of two participants, Julio César Castrillo and Francisco Javier Álvarez, when they collided with a tree. The front of the rally is now neutralized in the center of Tineo (Asturias), from where it had to go down to the fairgrounds to check the vehicles. It is expected that the organization of the race, which is missing two stages to the end, will suspend the competition.

The section where the accident took place left the town of Piedrafita and ended near the town of Tineo. The events took place around 4:25 p.m.

Francisco Javier Álvarez was born in Oviedo, Ciudad Naranco, and was known for having been co-driver with people like Roberto Solís, with whom he won the Desafío Peugeot, and thanks to this he was part of the official Peugeot team in the Championship of Spain. He was also co-pilot of Alberto Hevia and Ángel Paniceres.
