The young 17-year-old judoka from Châteauguay, Angelo Tematieu, won a silver medal at the 2023 Provincial Judo Championship held in Laval on March 25 and 26.

“Things are going really well for him at the moment, especially since he recently won a bronze medal at the Quebec Games,” said Stephen Bertrand, instructor at the Club Budokai de Châteauguay where Angelo trains.

The young man, who evolves in the U18 category of less than 81 kg, is in the process of becoming the best athlete of his level. Indeed, thanks to his last two medals, he went from 5th to 2nd best judoka in Quebec.

Mr. Bertrand is proud of the athletes he coaches; of the nine Club Budokai judokas who were present in Laval last week, five made it to the podium.

Nicolas Petitdant won the senior gold medal in the under 66 kg category. Alexis Bertrand won the bronze medal in the U21 under 81 kg category. Brandon Dufault won the senior bronze medal in the under 81 kg category and Lucas Perrier can boast of having obtained a bronze medal in the U16 category under 46 kg.

“We also had Dariush Babai who would have finished with a gold medal, but he was disqualified in the last match on a controversial decision by the referees for having used a technique superior to his belt,” admitted Mr. Bertrand.
