The search for the president is picking up speed – sport.ORF.at

The search for the new president of the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) is now really picking up speed. On Friday, following a presidency meeting in Vienna, the election committee will be formed, which will determine the new head of the largest domestic sports association.

Since the resignation of Gerhard Milletich, Lower Austria’s Provincial President Johann Gartner has been running the business on an interim basis, and his successor should be elected by September at the latest.

In theory, a new president could be designated as early as Friday. However, the chances of this are slim, because at the moment none of the candidates currently under discussion are likely to achieve a clear majority.

The entrepreneur and Vienna Vice President Roland Schmid, who lost the vote against Milletich in 2021 and the Rapid presidential election against Martin Bruckner in 2019, and the Carinthian state boss Klaus Mitterdorfer are considered possible contenders for the ÖFB executive chair.

Ten votes are up for grabs in the election committee – one for each federal state and one for the Bundesliga. The new president will be officially enthroned at a federal general meeting, which will probably not take place until September due to various deadlines that have to be met.
