The Government has responded in the publication in EL PERIÓDICOfrom the same editorial group as Diari de Girona, del urban plan presented by PGA Catalunyathe golf club located in Caldes de Malavella that opts to the organization of the 2031 edition of the Ryder Cup. An authorized spokesperson of the Executive has pointed out that the Government “outright rejects” the claims of the golfing entity, while at the same time reaffirming its support to ensure that the intercontinental competition is held in Catalonia. “But not with a growth model that is not ours”, this voice says, which does not hesitate to call it “socially unjust, environmental aggressor and speculative“.
The cabinet chaired by Pere Aragonès argues two types of reasons to abhor the “macro-expansion of the facilities” plan and asserts that, if the celebration of the Ryder Cup depends on this project, it will not be held. The first reason given is that it is “elitist and an attempt against the equal opportunities” points out the spokesperson. They point out that the numbers are not deceiving and that homes of 254 square meters on an average lot of 1,620 square meters draw a typology of “luxury homes”. They also deny that the project can be understood as a resort, that is a temporary overnight accommodation complex, since the promoters themselves, in the project delivered in Urbanism, have included compensation in sheltered housing at another point in the municipality of Caldes.
