In 2020, Joe Rogan revealed a totally crazy anecdote about the Cuban, certainly renowned for his impressive muscle mass. Judge instead:
Dana White told me this story. They had Yoel Romero treated because he had his eye socket fractured in one of his fights. The doctor saw him, and afterwards he called the UFC and said, “Where is this guy from? I have never seen anyone like him”.
The UFC responds: “Oh yes yes, he is an incredible athlete, for sure”. And the doctor adds: “No no, you don’t understand. I have never seen a human being like that. I have never seen such an unusual human being in 40 years of medicine”.
The doctor said that the tendons in Romero’s eyes are four times bigger than those of a normal person. He insisted: “His physical structure is different from that of any human being that I have come across in my life”.
A revelation as stunning as it is terrifying, which hardly lets imagine the fear that the opponents of the “Soldier of God” must have felt before entering the cage. Note, however, that at 45, Romero is now far from his best years. He still remains on two consecutive successes in Bellator, but has not fought since September 2022. He will face Vadim Nemkov for the light heavyweight title at Bellator 297 next June.
Retirement time has yet to come for Yoel Romero, armed with his unique genetics and physique. It is not given to everyone to disconcert so much a doctor who has been practicing for 40 years, and yet this is precisely what the Cuban did.
